2013 Must See Exhibitions – West Coast
For the first time our neighbor, Gallery Wendi Norris, will dedicate the entire space of the gallery to feature the work of surrealist artist Dorothea Tanning. The exhibit will include over 30 pieces of work created between 1960 and 1979 when the artist lived and worked in Paris. Opens this Thursday, January 10th!

The Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection
This February MOCA will display selected works donated to the museum as part of the 50 Works fo 50 States Project. The collection will include significant works by Carl Andre, Lynda Benglis, Dan Graham, Joan Jonas, Edda Renof, and Richard Tuttle. A postal worker and a librarian, Herb and Dorothy Vogel amassed over 4,000 works of art that they then donated to the National Art Gallery. Leo Villeareal ‘The Bay Lights’
This March Leo Villeareal will illuminate the bay with his light installation,”Bay Lights”. Inspired by the 75th anniversary of the Bay Bridge, the installation will span over 1.8 miles and sit over 500 feet above the water. Once it is completed it will be the largest LED light installation in the world.

Shaping Power: Luba Masterworks from the Royal Museum for Central Africa
LACMA: On loan from the Royal Museum for Central Africa, these works are rarely seen outside of Belgium. On display are figurative thrones, scepters and the notable figure of a woman holding a bowl by the celebrated artist known as the Buli Master. Shaping Power is part of LACMA’s new gallery and educational program dedicated to the arts of Africa.
